The role

As part of the Leadership team, the Head of Operations will lead the production, distribution, warehousing, and quality teams.  The focus is to drive continuous improvement and ensure the business has the systems, tools, and processes in place that enable growth. 

As a high-growth business with plans to expand its plant footprint, this role requires you to roll up your sleeves, find opportunities for efficiencies and structure, and nurture your team's development and growth. Your presence, communication and relationships will attract positive energy and boost productivity within operations. 

As such, your role will see you: 
  • Foster a culture focussed on performance, and growing capacity in a sustainable way
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, systems, and operational effectiveness
  • Lead by example with safety and well-being, building on a culture that ensures safety is at the forefront of day-to-day operations.
  • Oversee food safety and compliance - supported by the Compliance Manager.
  • Monitor and control operational costs, identify improvement opportunities, and implement cost-saving measures, including the capex strategy for the plant. 
  • Apply Lean/Six Sigma methodologies to streamline processes and improve efficiency, and competently use ERP systems, such as Cin7 Core, to manage operations.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as sales and procurement, to ensure seamless coordination and communication.

Skills and attributes we are looking for include:
  • Proven management experience in a small to medium sized operations / manufacturing environment - this could be with food or beverage manufacturing, nutrition or pharmaceuticals, or similar industry.
  • Experience in developing the operations strategy and bringing it to life - we are looking for examples of operational improvements and how you implemented structure, disciplines and processes - and culture. 
  • Entrepreneurial, growth mindset-focused approach - you love to solve problems, manage change and inspire people to grow with the business. 
  • Strong relationship skills - the ability to manage multiple stakeholders and get results through people - you like to roll up your sleeves and coach people.  
  • Ability to work across the business - from as well as an understanding of finance, compliance, supply chain etc.
  • Production planning experience - work to targets and continuously look for improvements.
  • Procurement or logistics experience or knowledge.
  • Experience working with an ERP system would be an advantage.
  • Ideally, exposure expanding operations into new markets/new countries, supporting the go-to-market strategy.
